Project Land Base under Expansion- Phase II

First Nation Land land posession under the expansion promise would be 4754 square miles or 2.2 percent.

The amount of land under Crown control is 207,021 square miles or 97.8 percent of Manitoba.

"Whenever his children get more numerous than they are now, they will be provided for further west. Whenever the reserves are found too small the Government will sell the land, and give the Indians land elsewhere."

The expansion clause is not only native oral history, it is a written recorded comment of the negotiations

of Treaty number one.  If the Supreme Court of Canada decided in favor of the Indians in Treaty # one, the size of Indian reservation would keep pace with increased First Nation population, meaning 160 per family of five in 1999 population figures.  Treaty Land Entitlement settled the reservation land entitlement based on 1871 population figures, Expansion will deal with reservation land size based on 1999 population figures.
